Complicated Credit Card Debt - Any Advice Please

Hi!
I would be grateful for any advice that can be given please. I am new here so I have posted this twice and don't know if I should delete the other thread?
My finace had a credit card with Goldfish who have now become Barclays.
Payments were missed last year and unfortunately, Goldfish passed the debt to a collections agency. Here, the saga became complicated.
In the month of April 2008 there were no less than six ‘Debt Adjustments’. I have not received any clear explanation as to why the collections agency added £226.35 to my fiance account in April alone or what the need for a debt adjustment was. Although he had made regular payments to the collections agency under the agreement there is atotal of £431.11 has been added to the total amount of the debt of £3038.
As explained in my correspondence to all organisations involved at no point was I informed that any interest was being placed on my account. I was initially informed that the £350 I that I had paid to the collections agency had been received and removed from the original amount. I was later informed that this was not the case and Goldfish had instructed the agency to charge him a huge 26%, which the agency deny, and I have provided proof of this to Goldfish.
I have written to Goldfish/Barclays and the new collections agency and received acknolwedgement from the new agency but not Goldfish. They state in their letter that they will be investigating and liasing with Goldfish. Goldfish have passed this back and forth between themselves and a two collection agencys even though my fiance has been making payments and sticking to agreements.
I am not willing to keep making payments to an account where the amount owed changes on an almost daily basis. However, when my charges and ‘courtesy payments’ and lost monies have been fully reimbursed I will be willing to make an arrangement with either Godfish or any other collection agency.
Does anyone know our rights? Can we choose not to make payments to these people until they have found our lost payments and given back all of the charges and so called courtesy payments? So far we have kept everything in writing and sent everything by signed for post.
I hope that all makes sense.

Hey,
I'm not an expert on these sorts of things but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.
In the meantime I would suggest contacting your local CAB office who might be able to help you with the legal aspects - but will certainly provide free advice on the situation.
Sorry I can't be of more help, hope it works out for you xxTarget debt - Loan left over from previous relationship - c. £3700

Really not sure about this S.
I'd suggest posting this on the consumeractiongroup forum as they are much more informed when it comes to the legalities. I thought that a DCA could add interest at the original rate, but only in certain circumstances (In your T&C) - and they had to supply statements on request. Not sure why, but 8% interest is ringing a bell - not sure if that's connected to something in the courts (brain too fuzzy right now
)
I would also advise requesting a copy of the customer credit agreement (CCA) - especially if the agreement was prior to April 2007.
