I quite agree with you Alison about the CTF/18 year olds and lots of money.

DH and I have had this discussion. I've always been adamant that should any of my children be left vast amounts of money. It should be put in trust until they are 30. He disagrees and says that's to old.

I just feel that by then, hopefully, they should all be pretty much settled, done their 'things' got it out of their systems and know which path life is going to take them. Therefore putting any money to good use.

I inherited money when I turned 21. My nephew(s) will get their accounts that I have paid into once they become 21. The intention for this cash (and their parents know it) is for "a plane ticket somewhere". (one of my nephews is Australian, so maybe he'll come and visit his uncle!)

the money we are saving for him and our niece & nephew is instead of birthday & christmas presents.

A further question, as i don't want to kick off another thread for this...

I am finding it hard to find a savings account for my lil one that will allow friends/family to pay in a regular amount of about £5 direct debit.

Post Office and CTF are both £20/m min. Does anyone have "the place to go"for this please?

    EDIT:
very next post i found gave me the search on moneyfacts.co.uk so i have found the scarborough BS. £5 min monthly deposit.

If anyone has somehting better in mind, please let us know. it'll take a while for paperwork to be sorted.
