Is now a good time to buy? If so - what?

Hi, complete novice here with about 10K to invest. Surely now must be a good time with the market low?? But what now? I have no clue about shares/bonds etc so what would be a reasonably save bet over the next 5 years?
Thanks
Then I suggest you use the time to get clued up. There are two ways of doing this: go onto the market and learn the hard way, or spend the long winter evenings studying how equities, bonds and their relevant markets work and interlink. The latter way is easier on the wallet. I have been involved in investment for decades, and this is the first time in my life that I have not been able to figure what is going to happen next.
If you buy equities now, you will need a very strong stomach. In the field of investment, 99 per cent of everything is garbage. Why? Because we have "gearing". - Robert Beckman0
