Another boiler installation question

  • Hi...did you receive a quote or an estimate? If the RGI hasn't conducted a complete site survey then anticipate additional costs when you receive a quotation (e.g. upsizing gas supply, flueing and condensate waste requirements etc).He hasn't specified a location for the boiler...this should be determined as part of the quotation process...sounds like a quicky installation as you are converting to a sealed system and this takes time. I strongly recommend a powerflush as the system is probably filthy (old, open vented system) and manufacturers will require a clean system in order to validate the warranty.

Hmm, looks like it was just an estimate then - what would my next step be? Is a quotation and complete site survey something I would normally have to pay for or would that generally be provided free of charge? (I dont mind paying just would rather know what to expect)
As for the location of the boiler he spoke about putting it in two places but said it would be best if the guys decide when they come to install, he said where the flue would go and that he thought the boiler would be better places on the wall at right angles rather than the wall with the flue.
He didn't look at the gas supply at all.

I aksed about the Veissmann boiler -
it would be the vitodens 100 boiler. They have just launched a new version this month I am still waiting for literature to let me know the changes they have made but it is all improvements.

The Isar is known to use less gas than almost any equivalent boiler mostly cos the bleedin' things are sooo unreliable they are never working and an Isar fitted on the cheap No No No.
