Most of this is good news but this still requires a warning.
As of today the seven-day cooling-off period that applies to sales made by cold-callers to your house now also applies to salesmen who come to your house as the result of a prior arrangement. This could be because you have applied for a brochure, or entered a "competition". The only drawback is that in the unlikely event they start work, or supply the goods within those seven days, then you may not be able to claim back all of your money.
So, just to be on the safe side, make sure that the company do not start work within that time, so you can claim back all your money if you change your mind.

Good news, especially for the vulnerable elderly, and bad news for adjustable bed companies like Powermatic, thanks for posting.Wonder how some will get round this-giving a supposed part of the order (supposedly of value) at the time?0

Many of them are incapable of reading or think it doesn't apply to them, either way they are idiots and the shut the door in there face is the only message they getmoonrakerz wrote: ».........put a notice by your front door saying "no salesmen".0

I was talking about those salesmen who you invite into your home because you have previously expressed an interest in their product, by requesting a brochure or other details. I wasn't talking about cold-calling. In my experience the latter class of salesmen ignore the "no tradesmen" notices anyway. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

I have always found the notice to be extremely effective, so much so that on one occasion I actually chased an Oriental gentleman down the path because he didn't even leave me a menu for his takeaway !0

A few years ago we had a "proper" sticker up in porch window, the "no salesmen, no hawkers" etc type. It eventually deteriorated and fell off after many years and so far we've not bothered replacing it simply because while we had it it made absolutely no difference to how many cold callers we got. Can't speak for your area, but here those no salesman signs seem to be completely ignored."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
