BT Late charges

How come that these utility companies can get away with these late charges but the banks and credit card companies can't? Any ideas?

You are confusing justifiable charges for late payments/unauthorised use of overdraft facilities etc. with excessive charges.

Some banks' £25 - £35 charges for unauthorised use of overdraft facilities are disputed because such amounts are allegedly excessive. The credit card companies reduced theirs to £12 when it looked like they'd lose a legal challenge and it is likely the banks will similarly reduce theirs.

IMHO, BT's £7.50 late payment charge is unlikely to be considered to be excessive if anyone ever challenges it in court.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
