Hypnobirthing - worth the money?

-
I am a hypnotherapist who offers tailormade childbirth coaching courses and will be offering Hypnobirthing TM from November onwards too. I would highly recommend it but just want to make sure that you are aware of the different brands of hypnotherapy birth based programme. The only official kind of Hypnobirthing is the Marie Mongan method. Many other hypnotherapists offer 'hypno-birth' and other variations of the the word but the only genuine Hypnobirthing is the Mongan method.
The Hypnobirthing company is American, but there is a British competitor called Natal Hypnotherapy. Not to say that one is better than the other, it just takes a different approach.
The concept of Hypnobirthing is not to guarantee a 'pain free' labour, but to ensure a comfortable birth experience. It cannot be likened to when Hypnotherapists use hypnosis for anaesthesia as it is very important for the health of the mother and baby that the mother is aware of sensations during childbirth, such as the sensation to push and so on..
It works on the concept that by removing the inbuilt subconscious fear associated with childbirth, you remove the physical muscular tension and simply allow your body to birth the way that nature intended. Many believe that the reason why childbirth is perceived to be so painful is because we have been conditioned this way in the Western world, Yet in countries that do not have access to this conditioning, women seem to birth with relative ease. I should however emphasise, that this ONLY applies to pregnancies and births that are without complication - obviously in countries without access to good medical care, the maternal morbidity and injury rates are higher for complicated births. In other words, breech presentations etc would not count as 'straightforward'.
Anyway, hope that helps. Feel free to ask any questions, hypnobirthing, hypnotherapy or anything else:D0
