what Insurance needed for starting an ironing business ?....

Options
I have been thinking of starting a small business to earn some extra income and wondered about insurance. Particulary for an ironing service. Does any-one know what i would have to have to get started? Thanks for reading this, regards, Elaine

Will people be dropping the ironing off at your house? If so I'd have thought you'd need some sort of third party liability. You'll definitely need something to cover the cost of replacing clothes in case they get damaged.

Probably worth phoning your local insurance broker and asking his advice, or business link. :)

You'll need to make your house insurers aware that people are visiting your home, this MIGHT up your premiums, as they don't like lots of visitors, checking out your goodies, in case they steal them.Or trip over the pile of ironing & hurt themselves.

So you'll need a public liability policy, if you let anyone near the house!

If you want to pick it up, from your customers, your car policy will need 'goods in transit' cover. Even if you were only going out to visit customers, or trying to create new clients, the cover needs to be worded 'business use' on the policy (probably already does that anyway, so no extra £$£$)

The council need to be aware, if you used a room ONLY for work - not really a problem, but write to them & keep a copy of their reply - just in case.

You might give Chris Doyle a call at A Plan Insurance, in Luton (even if you're out of this area) . He's their commercial manager. I've no connection, other than being a satisfied customer, & their first commercial policy issued to me, too many years ago, to remember.

He knows his stuff 01582 733757 their number.

    Possibilities
Public liability - to cover you for damage to any clothing.
Car insurance - to cover you for travelling on business (not just picking up & dropping off but matters such as canvassing, visiting the bank, shopping for supplies). This is a LEGAL requirement as not having it may mean you're driving without insurance.
House insurance - need to check that your policy will cover you for working from home.
