Hi All,

Am trying to do a carrot cake for DH's birthday tomorrow only to find that I have no brown sugar. Can I use white instead???

Thanks,

Mostly it's a difference in refining and so a difference in taste. So you'll lose some of the intended flavour of the carrot cake by using white but not much. I regularly use any old sugar I have to hand for things - the nearest equivalent, and somebody else recently said they did here too.

    :)

I do this every time I make a cake. More economical.

I def be doing the same from now on, thanks Black Saturn. I never realised you could sub one for another. Cake in the oven and smells lovely. Lets hope I can get it out of the tin without it falling apart, cakes never have been my strong point :o

Thanks to all for your help.
