According to your post last July, you said

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=12809265&postcount=3

So even you, despite you 'dressing for winter' and 'fill a large flask to avoid reboiling the kettle' (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=13089943&postcount=3) would get a bill from SP on their fixed rate tariff that low.

Be aware that as you are not on a fixed tariff, the price of electricity has increased since you made your post in July, so expect a higher bill this year (unless you decide to live by candlelight from now on! :D)

Im consistent in my posts arent I. ;)

Ive read posts from people stating that they use less electricity than me so ive been busy trying to cut down my usage. ;)

Today I received notice from BG that they have set my Electricity monthly direct debit @25.50, perhaps BG are aware that I have intent to cut back on my usage as well. ;)

Im not on a fixed rate tariff due to me having itchy fingers, as soon as im with a new supplier im itching to transfer to ( or back) to another supplier and collect another pot of Cashback for doing so. :D

    Hi,

I gave them my meter readings which showed them my useage had not increased & in fact was even lower. Their excuse was that they had reviewed my useage & based on that review had doubled my DD. But as this "review" was based on them picking a number out of the air which was conveniently high that didn't really answer the question.

Your account should be in credit at this time of year in order to pay for the heavy load you are expected to use during the cold, dark winter period.

To the OP who thinks they can survive on £420 p.a. total for both gas & electricity, are Scottish Power aware that you leave the property empty & unheated for a substantial period? They are not mind readers.

Presumably the reason you are not there often is the reason that SP had already taken the cash by the time you got the letter.
Under DD rules, the supplier is required to provide 10 working days notice (plus postal time), unless less notice has been agreed with you beforehand, before applying any amended payment. Of course, if you are not at the address which you provided SP with to sent such notices to, they cannot be held responsible for your delay in reading them.
    Hi,

I got the letter the day it came through the door and the DD came out the same day.

I do not spend any great amount of time in the flat but I am there enough to regularly collect the post & on this day I was in anyway.

Then you are entitled to a full and immediate refund by your bank under the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee

Ensure the bank makes an indemnity claim using reason code: Advance Notice Disputed.
