Scottish Power -When do the quarters start for billing on no standing charge?

Options
I have just moved back to Scottish power from Scottish hydro, I have the option of either a standing charge or a no standing charge product, Before I can work out whats the best to go on does anyone know if the quarters are fixed dates ie Jan-march, April-jun, July-sept, Oct-December or are they floating depending on your first billing period?

I have never had a no standing charge product before so working out the initial amount (First 225kwh per quarter) and then the rest at the lower rate is a bit complicated. I do however have all the weekly readings for the last 2 years so if i know when the quarters start I should be able to approx work out whats the better option.

Thanks for looking.

Why not use an annual figure or a weekly one, just adjust your quarterly standing charge and tier figures to suit.

Sorry I don't know how they work their dates out though.

It is almost certain that the dates are different for different customers and is linked to your billing cycle. If they did everyone on 1 day they would have to produce all the bills on the same day. If you want to work out your annual bill just use 2 old readings 1 year apart and charge 900kWh at the teir 1 and the rest at tier 2. It is highly unlikely you wont use up all your tier 1 in a quarter so it doesn't really matter what the date is.

    Thanks for replying,

Doing some sums it works out £20 a year cheaper on no standing charge but I think this may disappear in reality dependant on how they actually bill it.

Anyway I got a letter in from them this morning which confirms that I am on std domestic single rate so I phoned them and they want £100 to change the meter even though we are on a 2 rate Scottish power meter and this was detailed on the transfer application.

When their rep came to the door to get us to switch back he did not mention this, If he had then he would not have got a sale. The person we got on the phone was useless and very awkward and must have said no a hundred times during the call, however when questioned she could not tell me anything as the system was updating but "it would be your fault anyway as it was your choice to move back to them"

These morons must go on awkwardness training courses, any problem is nothing to do with them and always your fault.

"So you applied to come back back to us and nobody forced you"

"You have been given the wrong information but there is nothing you can do"

"You can write in but I can assure you you are wasting your time"

Basically they think they have us now and we are stuck on a single rate product unless we choose to pay the money for another meter to be fitted, To go on the product we applied for which would be our choice and therefore chargeable.

I don't feel like giving these crooks any of my money, so if i do not get a positive response to my letter within 7 days I will move back to Scottish hydro.
