I need to view a document on my p.c that my daughter had put on a memory stick . I get the following message when trying to open the document.
"the file requires a newer version of the microsoft works converter"
I gather I need to download a program to be able to view. Can anyone advise which one and where to go.
I have microsoft office 2003 and not sure what my daughter has on her laptop but her laptop is about 6 months old and runs vista so I presume its the newest version

From your post I assume your daughter is using Microsoft Works and the file you are trying to view has a .wps extension.
There is a download on the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bf41401e-70fa-465d-ae2e-cf44dbf05297&displaylang=en for Office 2003 with Service Pack 2 or greater which allows you to open, edit, and save documents in the Works Word Processor file format supported by Works versions 6, 7, 8 and 9.
If that doesn't work go www.zamzar.com upload the file and convert to a .doc format file which you can open in Office 2003.0 -
Thanks very much will give it a go0

You could also try open office http://www.openoffice.org/ it can open most word document formats without issue, plus its free.0

Open Office won't open Works documents though. Works is the brainchild of a very sick mindIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

You could try downloading Adobe Reader 7.0You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0
