Breakdown insurance/cover

Im looking into getting a price for breakdown ins/cover and im using moneysupermarket to get an idea and its come up with some companies ive not heard of before like GEM Motoring Assist, ETA, RescueMyCar.com or covermybreakdown.co.uk.
My question is has anyone used any of them or do i stick to the well known companies.

Here's a useful article from earlier in the year with results of a survey of customer satisfaction with the major breakdown providers:

Not really what you are asking but might be of some help/use anyway....

Do you have any Tesco vouchers?
We usually have breakdown cover with GreenFlag but have recently moved to RAC as they accept tesco vouchers and for deals they are worth 4x their face value. We used £30 of vouchers (which when exchanged were worth £120) and got much better cover from RAC than what we previously had with GF.

You get them by shopping at Tesco. You get points for spending and as your points build up they send vouchers out every so often. We used to use them for free shopping at xmas but this time the breakdown cover deal was too good to miss.

Go to www.tesco.co.uk On that page near the bottom click on clubcard, then to the left click on clubcard deals and airmiles. Then at the top of that page is a search box, type in RAC and it brings up all the different types of cover you can have.

Apparently.....so hubby tells me...its really easy to get the cover. He said you just type in the codes from the vouchers and then a few days later the paperwork came through. Hubby checked it was all correct and sent it back.

As I said before, because we were basically using free money we got a much better level of cover than we would have done had we stayed with GreenFlag or had to pay for the cover out of our own pockets.

  • I'm looking to use ETA for my breakdown cover too.
They have a special deal that if an existing member introduces a new member, they get £20 and the new member gets 3 free months of breakdown cover.
Can anybody introduce me? All I need is a membership number and a name.
