Hi everyone. Have just registered so this is my first question. Does anyone out there know which company is the cheapest if you have elderly relatives over 70 living with them. Presently with BG for Duel fuel. Greatful of any replies

Hi,
generally online tariffs are the cheapest. Have a look at a price comparison site such as energyhelpline.com, there are many cashback sites such as quidco where you can get paid for switching).
If you're not looking at an online tariff, E.ON's Staywarm plan can be competitive. This is where you are given a fixed price for 12 months and you pay that regardless of whether you use more or less. This can be beneficial to some people but not all. You can phone them for a quote :

Also, phone British Gas and ask if they are eligible for the Essentials tariff. This may provide savings.
http://www.britishgas.co.uk/about-british-gas/what's-important-to-us/customer-commitment/essential.html
This may not be the cheapest but may be worth looking into.
As you've probably deduced it is a bit of a minefield and there is no easy answer. Have a look around at the different companies, ask friends or family (and on MSE) for advice!
Best of luck0 -
Hello,
Is it just me - but when you use the comparison sites like energyhelpline I can never see the Staywarm tariffs in the Current Tariff lists. Eon is shown but not the actual Staywarm tariff.
This makes it hard to compare with the existing Staywarm tariff we pay at the moment.
Our Staywarm tariff is set to increase in November by 73% on last year!!
Will keep searching!0 -
Staywarm is probably the best for older people.Thomson 757 Man0

People over 70 qualify for free loft and cavity insulation.
Income related 'social' tariffs are based on household income I believe.
Staywarm is generally not the cheapest tariff, although might be for the first year until a consumption pattern is established - then expect huge rises!!!0
