Am I entitled to sickness benefit?

I lost my job at the end of last year. I was on jobseekers allowance (for the first time in my life) up to end of June, just the basic rate as my husband is working. I finally got a new job which I started 2 weeks ago. Today I have been diagnosed with breast cancer (it hasn't sunk in yet) so I'm going to require surgery and treatment. I don't know how my new employers will deal with this as I have only started. They may just want to let me go. Either way am I entitled to any sickness benefit or would I have to have been to work for a certain length of time before I can claim it?
Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated.
