How much would you deduct for benefit gained? I would deduct about £20 leaving £40 which is why I think the credit note of £60 is the best option.

I agree, I bought a battery some time ago, it had a 4 year warranty but only lasted 2 years. I was refunded 50% as I didn't want another the same.

Also, I went to one place and they had a range os batteries with a 3 year waranty and a very similar looking range, just labled differently, with a 5 year waranty. The capacity, amhr was identical. After a lot of probing it seems the batteries were the same, you just paid 30% more for the warranty.
I think I,d rather take a chance on the cheaper one lasting 5 years:cool:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

A car battery that only lasts 8 months is not of merchantable quality and sale of goods says the retailer is responsible and, given the circumstances, should refund

Err, not quite. You have to give them the option to replace which the OP didn't. You can only get a refund without replacement in the first few weeks.

They were given the opportunity to replace but due to staff shortages couldn’t deal with it for a week.

It’s not reasonable for the OP to be without a car for a week which I why I said the retailer should, in these circumstances, give a refund
  • >Or use the credit note against new tyres and forgo the saving of using the mobile fitter, how much cheaper is the mobile unit?

A lot cheaper - 30% which at £60 per corner is quite sizeable - the MGF takes fairly unusual tyres, different front and back. Most fitters don't stock them anyway.

    >If you have one tyre particulary worn (spare?) you could put it on the front and wear it down a bit more.

The spare is a third size again, a balance between the front and back, and shockingly unstable on what is already a fairly tail-happy car! If we were dealing with a normal car, this would be a good idea, I agree, but not applicable to my car, I'm afraid.

    >What kind of outfit was it that no-one else could check to see if the battery was in need of replacement?! I could do that myself at work, let alone the mechanics that work there!?

Tell me! It's not as if connecting a load meter is a particularly complicated procedure...

I think I'll write to the owner, explaining that I did my best to allow them to fit the replacement but that waiting a week is not reasonable. I'll mention SOGA and see where I get.

    Cheers
