Re some of the earlier comments about 'Which?' and PayPal.
If ever anyone was looking for just one reason to take no notice of 'Which?', there it is.
Where 'Which?' is concerned, what used to be a respected and authoritative consumer help / consumer protection organisation whose work was underpinned by accurate, diligent research is now a laughing stock. I'm a longtime eBay seller, and I wouldn't touch PayPal with a barge-pole.
Onwards & upwards, MSE! RIP, 'Which?'0 -
I can accept that many people don't like paypal, we argue on here enough about it, however I believe that WHICH were correct in suggesting that buyers should use paypal to protect themselves.
Paypal might not be perfect but it is the only chance that a buyer can get any money back at all if the transaction goes wrong. If you don't use paypal for your purchases what advice would you give to buyers on using a payment method with some protection?
As a long term seller on ebay I offer paypal as I assume my buyers feel the same as I do and look to protect themselves.
Everybody has their own opinions based on their own experiences. For me i have postal problems and cannot get to a bank easily to pay in cheques, so I prefer paypal, I accept that not every one feels like that.
As for WHICH I find they have some very useful information which is why misunderstanding the paypal system stuck out so much, it wasn't like them at all.

I offer Nochex, soo. There's never been a dispute in any transaction but buyers seem pretty well protected. Reason for kicking PayPal into touch as a seller was the chargeback situation. As for 'Which?', unfortunately in my experience this is anything but the first time it has fallen down on the job.0

Interesting thread. Makes me wonder...an eBay item I ordered from the USA last year hasn't arrived yet, do you think it could have got stolen? Surface mail is slow but not that slow! Can I do anything about this, do you reckon?0

I assume you are being ironic?
If not, then no, paypal give you 45 days to make a claim and no longer.

Soo
Slightly off the ebay topic but they also got something wrong in the article on PAYG mobiles. I'm a bit disappointed in them this month.
I can understand them recommending PayPal to buyers though.0 -
I've just had a strange coincidence occur having been speaking about tampering.
I had a lost parcel it's been 12 days now and I was corresponding with the buyer with a view to refunding today. However she has just emailed to say that it arrived in a clear bag with a note to say the packing had been insufficient and was damaged within the sorting office.
This item was actually a small item of childs clothing, brand new and wrapped in a plastic bag, tissue paper and then in a brand new padded brown envelope sealed with parcel tape, all she has is the item in the original plastic bag within a RM envelope! (I assume it is my original plastic shop bag as the photo my buyer sent is not very clear).
SO somehow my tissue paper wrapping and a thick brown padded jiffy bag sealed with tape' have all come adrfit after being handed in over the post office counter..
That is so odd, a real Twilight zone moment.
