Are Steering Locks worth the cash?

I had one on my old car but it doesn't fit my present car. The present car has a better alarm system though, but the old car was in the "more popular for stealing" category. It's a bit of a hassle fitting it every time but it has to be worth it. Those stick things though seem a waste of time.Torgwen..........

thatcham approved steering locks are the ones for which some insurance companies will give discount on. You should note that the steering locks are for visual detterants and will not stop someone who is keen on your car. Some takes seconds to get off while some minutes longer. As said someone will prefer a car without a lock for easy access.
Do remember if you do get a discount from the insurance for the lock you must use it when the car is unattended otherwise you may not be covered.
if you really want to protect your car then get a wheel clamp with a strong lock.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

I bouhgt one from Argos (the dearest one at the time), due to the fact that it says it conformed to Thatchem Category 3 standard.
The reason I wanted one like this is that my insurance company said that if I had a Thatchem approved immobiliser on my car then it would affect my insurance.
So after I had bought the lock, I rang my insurance company and told them that I had bought the Thatcham approved immobiliser, they then asked me what category it was and I told the Category 3 as it said on the certificate.
They then told me that most insurance companies are only interested in Category 2 and 1.
So it made no difference to my insurance. I might as well had bought the cheapest one in the shop and just had it as a visual deterant.Old pilots say "It is better to be down here Wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here."0
