Hi,
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice as iam currently very worried..
I was involved in a car incident.. which i dont believe was my fault, but that would be hard to proove.
I have since looked into my insurance and realised a couple of details maybe wrong..
Iam insured with More than.
I think i put down the wrong amount of years no claims bonus when i applied for the insurance.
Iam concerned now that a claim has gone in from a third party they may turn around and say that my insurance is invalidated.
Does anyone have any experience of this and in the case they do invalidate it what do i do? do i have any recourse with the insurance company and how do i protect myself from what i think will be a inflated claim from the third party.

Are you sure?
It's quite common for insurers to ask for proof of NCD.
They ask for orignial documents and won't accept copies so they DO check up front.
Did you get asked for proof of NCD?
If you did then you have nothing to worry about.
Why do you think the claim from the 3rd party will be inflated (to be honest the costs does not really have much impact on you).
Did you have independent witnesses?
You can also put in a claim.
If there are no independent witnesses and it's hard to prove then most likely the blame goes 50/50, not because that's fair but because it's far cheaper for the insurers than arguing in court.
Both parties will lose no claims and the amounts will be pretty much irrelevant.
If you have independent witnesses then it would make a big difference, but mates, passengers, collleagues etc. do not count as independent. You need someone that you don't know that was not involved.0 -
Hi, thanks for your reply,
I wasnt asked for proof. Are you sure they check upfront??
I dont think they spotted the mistake and neither did I.
I applied on the internet and the policy came through.
The incident was a little scuff on a bumper. Iam disputing the claim.
the reason i think it will be inflated is because the third party has put in for personal injury( probably all three have). There were three of them in the car. Very dodgy types. i wouldnt be surprised if it was a setup, i have my suspicions.
But that aside my main worry is that the insurance company decide to invalidate my insurance.
Are you really sure they check upfront??0 -
Hi thanks for the reply.
They didnt ask for proof.
I applied for it on the internet and the policy came through.
Are you sure they check upfront??
The reason i think the claim is going to be inflated, is that they were very dodgy types and they have claimed for personal injury, the damage was a slight scuffed bumper, and they were perfectly fine. iam suspicious the whole accident was a setup.. but thats another story..0 -
May I ask how many years NCD you declared and how many years you are actually entitled to?
Some insurers check upfront, some only ask for proof if you claim.
I note that in your first post you said "I have ... realised a couple of details maybe wrong" - is the NCD the only error or are there others, and if so what are they?0 -

Did these "dodgy looking" types have insurance?
Tbh you deserve everything you get, far too many people like you who commit fraud and then try and pass the buck
How can you make a few mistakes several times over? answer you cant
I bet these errors all where in your favour too0 -
I have always had to provide proof of my no claims discount and actually have to send one off tomorrow as i just got new insurance with Sainsburys, in my experience the company will keep sending you letters until you do prove you are entitled to the discount they have given you and if you do not do it they will charge you full price for the policy. My insurance was also done online.0

I think i was out by one year, although iam trying to check, i may be wrong. does anyone know how i can?? the other detail would be that i changed jobs and forgot to update the occupation.
I didnt do it on purpose, and probably wouldnt have gained much fiancially as opossed to the risk.
there is a outside chance the No claims bonus is ok, then it would just be the occupation thats wrong0 -
What they will do first of all is ask you to explain why they were given the wrong information.
To be honest the NCD issue is relatively minor. The job issue could be problematic depending on what your new job is and whether you were using the car for commuting or business use.
If you just explain that it was a genuine mistake then the most likely outcome, assuming that your job is acceptable to the insurer, is that the insurer will agree to deal with the claim subject to the difference in premium being paid (i.e. the difference between what the premium should have been with the correct details, and what it actually was when the policy was set up with the wrong details).0 -
I just Checked the NCD is correct .. what a relief..!!
I dont use the car for business or commuting just social.
Thanks for all your help , i was very stressed today.0
