Do my Childrens Savings accounts affect my benefits?

Hi

I have recently been made redundant and before i make my claim for Contribution JSA i would like to know whether the amounts in my kids Smart 2 Save accounts are taken into account when my benefits are worked out. I know the limits are £6000 & £16000 but wasn't sure if kids accounts are looked at as well. I am the guardian on the account and can withdraw and put money into the account whenever i choose.

Thanks in advance
Cost of this Hamster Hunt (inc postage):
2 x Num Nums - £36.70, 1 x Chunk £13.50, 1 x Chunk £15.50, Slide £26.89, House £25.94, Car £14.99, Ball £9.99, Surfboard £9.99, Skateboard £9.99, Wheel £24.19 TOTAL:£187.68

A big thanks to you MSE'ers - especially Maximouse :A

As you are claiming contribution based JSA which is not means tested the capital limits do not apply so it does not matter how high your savings are.
  • Thanks for the replies.

Now i am confused cause when i went to the CSA they did ask about my savings even though they knew what type of JSA i would be applying for.

So as far as you know if it is contribution based then it doesn't matter how much you have in savings??? I would think they would care if you had alot of money already.

Ignore the first reply you received as it is incorrect. If it is contribution based JSA you are going to receive it does not matter how much you have in savings, that is a definite, you could have a fortune and still receive it.

DLA is not a means tested benefit so NO savings affect it whatsoever
