if specific sites, add them to the windows hosts file in the (xp) windows\system32\drivers\etc folder, probably easier just to use something like k9Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

You could do it with the parental controls if you have Vista but that might block other sites you don't want to.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

To explain - there is a file on your computer called "hosts". You can find it in the directory:
windows\system32\drivers\etc\
You can add lines on to the end of this telling your computer to take special actions when that web address is typed in. Use the same format as for the lines that are already in there (don't delete anything).
For example if you want to stop people visiting SkyBet then add this line:
127.0.0.1 www.skybet.com
That tells you computer to do nothing if that web address is typed in.
It's not totally foolproof though.
The K9 alternative mentioned is, I assume, to download the free "K9 Web Protection" program. It is designed to allow you to restrict what children can do on the internet including blocking certain sites. You can get it here among other places.0 -
If you use firefox
Then ADBLOCK PLUS is good ~
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
Blocks most adds by default, and you can get it to stop sites too (if memory serves correct):idea:0
