linux/mysql in a prod virtual hosted env?

Options
Been asked to get involved with a red hat/mysql project at work and i know f all about it. Currently have a single server so not much DR!

Technology is tier 1 hardware, mysql5, red hat 5, apache 2.2, php5, 64 bit.

Need to have a good robust solution as this is for customer websites/data, could. Projected no's are 1500 registered users, no more than 200 at any one time. Anyone give me some pointers re:-

buy/lease/fully hosted hardware cost benefits
linux virtualisation
mysql replication v block level v clusters
failover/DR to WAN sites
ISO/data/security audits (we host local govt/schools data)
Cost v downtime will be a big issue...

Any pointers/no go's greatly received :j

  • That is a very vague description of your requirements. If you could be a bit more specific I may be able to offer some suggestions.
