in Techie Stuff
Hi all,
Had a major problem with my PC last night. It was acting strangely so i ran Spybot and Superantispyware which removed some stuff and then said i needed to restart my PC, which i did.
But then my PC would not boot up. I have tried everything, safe mode, repair from WinXP cd etc but cannot get it to load.
So this morning i have swapped it for an old hard drive and put my main one as a slave drive to try and recover some of my files.
So far so good. The computer sees it as a slave drive and i can access some files but not the ones i want
They are in the documents and settings folder under my name but everytime i try to open it, it says access is denied.
Now i know i had a password on the computer to log into windows but it is not asking me for this or giving me any option for a password.
Is there anyway around this or have i lost all my files
I know i know i should back up more regularly

Well, I have a gizmo that will plug ANY hard drive into my computer via the USB port. Not one of them has 'locked me out' as yet.
I got mine off ebay:idea:0 -

Have you tried to take ownership of these files? see here:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Yes i have just done that and it seems to be ok now.
I did try it earlier as i had googled it but i wasnt getting the 'Security tab' option as the solution i found didnt mention having to untick the 'Use simple file sharing' option in the folder options
Thanks for your help, off to back up all my files nowErrrr...come back later0
