split the logs and you get fed. don't split the logs, and you can starve

And thanks for working out the Evap milk cost :T
Looks like it's the real stuff then.
I did have to use up the dried milk powder so I haven't really lost out. But it goes to show that you should always check out the real against the assumed savings when money saving.

We're back after our day out. It's raining here and blowy and grim so I am still in bed, having caught up on the thread.

Janey, DH and I have roared with laughter at the thought of your mum in a wheelbarrow.

redglass, I so agree that a frugal lifestyle means relishing the simple free pleasures. I liked your description of the soft green light.

gloomy lighting (topic, not a user name!) - I always wondered if I got Seasonal Affected Disorder as lighting really does affect my mood. For years I have wanted the SAD goods (like the lamps or alarm clock) but have been far too tight to pay for something that may have no effect. But I saw a thread on here that says a tasklight from Screwfix (cost under £30; haven't checked the recent prices) is just as effective, so I am going to get one and give it a whirl at some point soon.

Yesterday's day out was cold but brilliant. There weren't many people around at the attraction so DS and friend did each ride at least twice as they didn't have to queue for anything. It cost each of us £13 (DH and I did about 15 rides each, and DS and pal must have done 30).

We were too lazy to take food with us, however, but we went to the pub next door and had a main meal and pudding and drinks. It wasn't cheap but it was fantastic quality, and very warming. And we told the boys that we weren't going to send any more money at all (didn't go to the shop). So we had a planned spend and didn't fritter money away. They fell asleep in the car on the way back.

This is the best weekend we've have in years. How nice to spend it with you folk too.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

    Hi - me again!

Low energy lightbulbs for free apparently. Basically B&Q are running a promotion where you take in an old (used) ordinary lightbulb in to their store and they will replace it with 2 low energy ones. A bit too far for me to justify the petrol costs and try it, but may be of use to some of you. Link above

    Morning all,

Can you please help me. I am getting small blisters all over my hands, mainly on fingers. I can't even claim that they are result from hard work as I have done nothing out of ordinary and some of them are on back of the fingers so hardly due to hard work. I had 6 yesterday morning and 12 this morning and they are so painful and annoying. I have opened some of them and used Savlon but I still get new coming up. I have never seen anything like this. Any clues? I was going to clean my animals but need to go and get gloves before I can do that the way I am.

DD is nagging on watching her DVD on my computer (can't get my DVD player to work) so need to go now.

    Catch up later...

the_cat : thanks for the heads up on that one :) May have to go to Mr A for a shop as they're just round the corner from our B&Q (and I also want to recheck upright freezers at a store just down the road from them). Don't have any 'used' bulbs of the old type around, but I do have a number of cheap ones (I think I got 20 for £1 about 18 months ago), so I guess I can afford to swap a couple of those ;)

ETA: Just double checked the dates of the offer, and Friday is pay day which means I can afford to do a 'big' shop which makes it worth going out that way too :T

Marru, have you had any mouth ulcers recently or felt fluey??
A friend of mine had something similar to this a while ago and it was diagnosed as hand foot and mouth disease (nothing to do with the animal foot and mouth) it was some sort of viral infection. maybe check out nhs direct and have a read up see if it sounds similar?

Marru - try this link. It may just be from an insect bite, or some allergy. Have you used anything different yesterday/recently? Let us know what happens.
