  • There's no time like the present Cheryl, I don't think there's any harm in them giving you information so that you can be well informed and try and keep your son from having lots of debts.

I am going to read some of my birthday present now, I got the whole series of the Naughtiest Girl in the School books from the sisters for my birthday. We were in Costco last week and I spotted them and got rather excited. My favourite auntie bought me them when I was young and I loved them and read them loads of times. So, I have a bit of nostalgia now. I hope that they are as good as the first time round!!!!

just checked and if you go onto "family and health" at top of page there is a Prents guide to student finances - hope that helps cheryl.
    :T Thanks for that :T

But -- doh! I'd been in there several times, and tried searching threads on what I thought would be key words without it turning up...... must be 'cos most of the info is in a PDF file rather than in the post proper :rolleyes2

ETA: My search for a thread with "Parents" and "Finance" in the title has turned up the one with the PDF file -- and I've just realised it's not the one you meant. Off for a look for that one now ;)

SL -- Happy Birthday for today :) Hope you enjoy your read.... I loved those books too ;)

Younger DS has mentioned he's bought me a book for Christmas (only 'cos he was looking for all my books - which are currently boxed up - to make sure I didn't already have it), but I've not mentioned any specific books to him, nor "ooooo-ed" at any that have been advertised....... so the mind boggles at what he's got me :o

Ooh, the Faraway Tree was my favourite book ever!!! I loved all the others as well, I was a bookworm too SM :j
    Sorry Janey, decorum....
I would like to officially welcome our two newest recruits Glendam and masomnia - great to see you getting stuck in already and what a fab idea for the new baby vouchers :T I do believe you both have the right level of madness to fit right in here just fine :D
:rotfl:at the piggy banks line up SM - maybe we should have a photographic parade of all our banks and pick our favourite. Blummin lovely trifle too, I could taste it from here.
CW, I haven't actually looked myself (fruitlessly tried to convince OH to several times) but isn't there a whoe forum dedicated to all things student? Sorry if that's where you've been looking. You should definitely be able to get some figures for fees thresholds. I hope you can find a way to send DS as it is an amazing experience, even with the astronomical debt the other side (OH has 20k+).
Sorry, brain fried, sure I had more replies to make but giving up and off for a bath.
Don;t know if anyone watched it/cares but Chris Hoy won Sports Personality of the Year (one for the Scots) which I'm very happy about!
See you all tomorrow x I knew there was something important - Happy Birthday Skint Lynne, glad you had a lovely day x

Oh, I loved the faraway tree as well, moonface was in it:T :T :T . I have read the first 2 chapters and I am pleased to report that Elizabeth Allen is still a naughty little girl.:rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm going downstairs to check my breadmaker, I am making banana loaves in them. (My breadmaker has 2 loaf pans in it, I bought it years ago from Lidl's). I had 2 rather ripe bananas that I would have usually binned, but I discovered a banana bread recipie. What is happening to me, I have been frugalled instead of tangoed!!!

CW Not sure if this has been suggested already but there is a student money saving forum here which might help in your investigations

  • Thanks a lot SM for the RT tip: will def go for that tomorrow: must have missed it in Martins email. Sorry I haven't responded to everyone's posts (I should be in bed by now really) but I have been educated and entertained as usual:D .
Yup, loved the faraway tree too.
Happy birthday for the remainder of the day Lynne. Sounds like you've had a good day.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
