:hello: twinkle_star and Cat Addict! Welcome to the thread :D
I've just managed to transfer £100 into my savings account :j :j I was looking at figures earlier, and as I'm not at the £3000 mark, I thought I would transfer a bit of money over. So yay! Have hit the £1k for my savings, which is good :D
I've decided (i think!) that I'm going to apply to do a PGCE next year - is this a good idea?! I hope so.
Hope you all have a good day xx

  • Good Afternoon

I hope everyone has had a good week. I've had a busy morning as DS1 is laying a wreath at the rememberance day service tomorrow and we had to attend a rehearsal this morning.

I haven't done my spends for October yet but this is on my to-do list for today. I'm thinking that they maybe a bit like this  as I have been buying christmas presents.

Slowlyfading - I'm thinking of applying for a PGCE next year as well, are you thinking of Primary or Secondary? I would like to teach RE but still looking at all the options.

Hope everyone has a good weekend :D

Are you a teacher already or do you want to retrain as one? What are you doing now? Sorry, don't want to sound too negative but I've heard that most newly trained teachers find it hard to find full-time employment, although that might depend on the region you live in and the subjects you want to teach (some like science are more in demand than others). I was considering that as an option in a few years time because if it happens that I'm out of my job for a few years because of having a few kids in quick succesion it's hard to get back into it at the level I'm now, but at the moment I'm dismissing that option up here.

Last night I had my first ever frugal dream! I dreamt I was saving rainwater in a bucket and using it to wash myself with - the 'bathroom' was behind a hedge in my front garden. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

There are also signs of an epidemic of frugalism sweeping this part of the country. I recently noticed an ad on Freecycle asking if anyone had a free copy of Poundwoman's book to give away. Way to go.....:rotfl:

My local Costco would be the Bristol one. I looked on the site but I don't think I'm entitled to join. I didn't see anything about getting a card for being in the police, though, which gives me hope - can you also get one for working in education?

redglass, you can get a card in you are a teacher or involved in education. If you are a civil servant of any kind, you are entitiled to a card. It should tell you the criteria on the webiste somewhere.

  • My lodger first came to liove here 6 years ago to do a PGCE at 40ish and has loved teaching (science) these last 5 years.
Marru - ho long is your course and what work/career do you hope it will lead to?
Had a delightful morning in wet weather gear unblocking the drain outside kitchen as water had flooded the 'gargen'. Smelt disgusting but sorted now. Been to butchers for months supply of happy meat. and about to make various phone call making use of free weekend calls.
Then we shall start tackling the big freecycle shelves. OH currently removing nails from it.
Bails - people like the woman you describe not only give people on benfits a bad name, but the illness too. Makes me mad too and I just don't understand it.
Oh, just remembered I've got to source house insurance this weekend. Hate doing things like that and would be so much easier to just stay with the poeple I am already with.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Anyone want a piper... free to a good home? I'm now reminded again why I could afford this flat - rugby international day chaos! Why does someone have to play the bagpipes on the corner of my street every time? :wall: Only another 1hr 30 to kick off  Anyone know where I can get cheap earplugs? There is another international next week too  :rotfl:

I've been trying to get my spreadsheets updated - why do they never add up? :o I'm sure they added up last weekend :rotfl: Oh well at least they are telling me I've gained money rather than lost it :D

Uh oh - I am back from shopping. £33.37 for pets and £32.13 for people . I went to Mr L and as I don't go there very often stocked up with tinned stuff so should last beyond just one week. I got big bag of mushrooms for a pound from street seller when I was in town doing my mystery shopping, they will go into SL with some tinned beans, veggie stock and onions and celery. Should make nice "stew" to make the "backbone" of my evening meals for next week.

I have done 7 things from my to do list, 27 to go. I have now less than an hour before SCD to get more done so off I go again...

    Wishing everybody great evening,

    Marru

PS forgot to answer you BB, I am studying level three diploma in animal management and it is going to take two years. I just started in September. When I graduate I am hoping to be able to do rehabilitation work with animals and dog training and then do further studies in behaviour to eventually become a companion animal behaviour councellor.
