I dont really know anything about it much, but I just dont really want to pay for anything i'm not going to benefit from.

Sorry, faith has nothing to do with liability.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I can understand Donna's confusion as surely an insurance company only pays out to the insured. If Donna is the insured and the new owners fall liable for chancel repairs then this is no longer anything to do with her.

    yes exactly!

I dont mean that i'm not going to benefit from the church, I mean how am I going to benefit from the insurance they want me to take out as I wont be living in that house anymore, so even if the curch does need repairs I wont know a thing about it as I wont be living in that house anymore.
  • I just had this when I sold my house (wasn't told when I bought it). Anyway the buyers paid for the liability insurance - it was about £30. I wasn't going to pay as there was 2 chapels (1 now a soap factory) and a church in the village and no-one could tell me which one had rights over my house (it would have cost the buyer more in solicitor fees to find out). The buyer mentioned it to me but didn't ask me to pay

see this is what I thought would be normal that the buyer buys the insurance policy, our solictor said that wimpey(doing part x with them) had contacted them and said we have to buy it.
  • they probably mean give them the money to take the insurance out. ie they take out the insurance and you reimburse them

This is beginning to sound like a scam to hit everyone moving house with an added bill. Especially when they can't even tell you which chapel relates to your house. I smell dodgy practice here, hmmm...
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Oh well i have told my solicitor that im not keen on paying it but if it is the done thing then i will, he is going to tell wimpey im not keen and see what they come back with.
  • They could have found out but it would have cost about £50 for the extra search but only £30 to take out the insurance. The buyers just took out the insurance so I didn't know which chapel it was.
