How long does it take to hear from Amex?

Decided to take the plunge and apply for my first credit card. Went with the Amex Platinum (as per e-mail newsletter) for the cashback. Applied online but didn't get immediate result. Just curious as to the reasons why and how long it would take to hear?
I am not working (currently at home with kids) but had my husband (employed) also on the application. I don't have a bad credit history, but perhaps I don't have any credit history, having never had a loan/ mortgage/ credit card before?
Thanks in adavnce!

I have this card and I've always found Amex to be very efficient. When my application was referred it was because I had put a different telephone number down to the main BT line into the house. Somebody called me from Amex a couple of days after my application to verify this. They also had some questions about previous addresses. So I would not fret about being referred or waste time worrying about it, as it could be any number of small things they want to verify.0

I applied online for a Egg money card last week and like you did not get an instant decision.
After asking a similar question to yours on this forum I was advised to log into my account again and I then found out I had been accepted!
Don't know if AMEX work the same way but it might be worth a try if you have your login details.

I think I got the accpetance decision about a week later through the post.
If yo get declined it might be worth trying your own bank for your first CC if your accounts with them run wellKavanne

Took just over a week to get a reply, and I was rejected, even though my income is about 50% over the minimum, and my partners salary puts the minumum way over (to about 3-4x).
No reason other than the fact they use credit ratings to assess everyone, and the way they assess is a trade secret (basically getting out of being asked why people were refused.). Nevermind eh. Ill stick with egg.0 -
I got declined from Amex - took only 3 days for the rejection letter to turn up!You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0

I took out the Amex platinum a couple of months ago. I didn't get an instant decision but wasn't on the electoral register at our new address as we had just moved. I got a phone call a few days later to say I'd been accepted and I would get the card and info a few days later.0

Try and ring them up. (It's an 0800 number so don't worry.) Did today and found out I was rejected.
Made the application around 6 pm yesterday. Delay, the lady said, was probably because they couldn't access Experian. She was checking my application and was able to tell me a rejection letter was sent out this morning.
