Connecting wireless using robotics USB

I've just moved over to sky broadband and have my laptop connected wirelessly. I have scrounged a robotics usb g wireless device in order that my daughters desktop can access wirelessly, When I search for wireless devices in range it doesn't show any just gives a note about microsoft wireless zero. Can anyone help?
