I'm not sure if all hobs are the same, but mine has a 'boost' function which means power can be drawn from another ring so that the one you're cooking on is more powerful and faster.
So it either means 1.4 kw is the basic power rating but it can be boosted to 2.8kw when needed.....
OR.....
...it might be a dual ring which supplies 1.4kw for a small size pan and 2.8kw if you have a large pan on it.
I suspect it would be the latter.Herman - MP for all!
