national tyres overcharging

I got a new tyre today from National tyres as I had a puncture and this was the closest place (i've never used them before). My tyre was not repairable and the guy gave me a price for a mid-price tyre which I said was ok. What he failed to mention was that he charged me an extra fiver (plus vat) for an accidental lifetime guarantee which I never spotted til I got home. He also failed to mention you got Tesco clubcard points in there meaning I failed to get 50- odd points on my card.
I've now complained to head office and they assure me I'll get my fiver back on my credit card but I've emailed them as they will be due me the vat they charged on that fiver and they will be due me clubcard points as well.
Why does every tyre fitter have to rip people off. A fiver is a fiver, and I need it when I have 3 kids to feed, etc.
Be wary and check for hidden charges even if its just a tyre you are getting! It adds up!!!

surely you should have spotted the fiver extra when you were paying.
Admittely the man should have asked you if you required this insurance but if i went into a shop for a pair of shoes at £20 i would realise that the shop assistant was wrong if she asked me for £25. Tesco club points - 50 hardly worth getting stressed about. For what they are worth you probably spent more on the phone call to head office.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I was quoted a price for a tyre, I wanted a tyre with no added extras. They shouldn't be allowed just to add stuff on. He folded up the receipt and put it in the cardboard leaflet and handed it to me.....by which point my toddler was way past his lunch so i thought I'd check it when I got home. I have never had a tyre company lobbing on extras for buying a tyre before apart from the usual getting your tracking checked which didn't need doing. The guarantee was never mentioned, it is an extra and I should not have been charged for it. If you look on other websites you'll find I'm not the first that this has happened to. The price he quoted was the price I was charged- I had no idea thisprice included an optional insurance for a tyre or I would have told him I didn't want it.
50 extra clubcard points might not be worth much to you but it is to me. I didn't know they took the tesco clubcard there's nothing to tell you.
It was an emergency as I was out when I got the puncture so it was the nearest place.0 -
I assume they work like that as they make some sort of sales bonus on the insurance.0

So you'd be happy to pay £50 for a tyre (thats £45 elsewhere)
But not happy to pay £50 for the same tyre and some kind of guarantee?0 -

What would have happened if you had left their premises and got another puncture, rendering the tyre useless?
Would you have claimed the insurance?
Or would you have gone back in to claim your fiver back and buy another tyre for £50?
Personally since i have tyres on my car for around 2-3 years on the driving wheels and longer on the non-driving wheels I'll pay the few quid extra for insurance. Punctures can happen anytime, anywhere. Can you guarantee you'll not get one for the life of the tyre? If so then fight for your fiver. If you can't guarantee it, then it might be more advisable to accept you can claim for a new tyre if it's punctured anytime over the next few years.

So if every tyre fitter is doing it why have you never had it before?
