Baumatic oven problem

My oven has recently not been working correctly.
When the dial is turned to fan assisted, the fan works but it doesn't heat up above 50degrees.
What would be the reason for this? Is it a thermostat?
Would it be expensive to fix?
All other functions work correctly including the convection oven function which seems to be a combination of the ordinary oven heating plus the grill element but maybe i am wrong.
I think that the door should be kept shut for this but unfortunately this creates a lot of smoke even though i cleaned it a couple of weeks ago.
Can anyone advise me what to do before i call in a repair guy?
