alliance minimum deposit charges advice please

I opened an Alliance account to use the overdraught facility. I left the account at 0£ and forgot about it. After moving house my statements were not redirected. I have been charged £5 per month for breach of the minimum £500 deposit requirement (which I was unware of) for the last 2-3 years! My charges took me to £210 overdrawn. Since then they have closed my overdraught facility and i have incurred an additional £5 per day charge. They say i need to pay £280 to close the account. Do I have any grounds for appeal or will I just have to pay them effectively £280 for nothing? Do I have any legal stand point?

Thanks

this would have been mentioned when you opened the acc i doubt if you will get these charges waived but good luck.
  • Does anyone know if these charges are re-claimable?

This would of been in the Terms and Conditions and would of been mentioned to you when you signed up. If it wasn't, then you may have grounds to get the charges dropped, if not you may well be stuck paying them unfortunately.
