Please dont bite my head off for this but £245 for glasses is an awful lot of money. Thats easily a chunk of your wedding dress etc.
I am terrible for buying expensive/designer things and up until recently wouldnt have had a problem with it. One thing i have found is that the internet has 99% of designer items at a much cheaper place (example: When i needed my last glasses i almost bought a £150 rimless designer pair from the opticians, who are very good at pressure selling, instead i went online found a pair of oakley rimless glasses for £55. Sent my prescription to them and had them back within a week.)
Just a thought but always worth looking into
Keep your head up and i hope that your motivation comes back.:o"We're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl!"0 -
I know its a lot of money, is for 2 pairs though, and mainly due to the fact that my perscription is that strong that the lenses just pop out unless I pay to have them thinned... because I need my glasses on constantly, I always have a back up pair just in case, it was only a few weeks ago that one of my pairs broke, and if I didn't have a spare I would be stuck! I can't even see my computer screen without them on never mind doing stuf like driving!
Might add that I didn't just splash the cash on a whim... Its taken two months for OH to force me to go back and get retested, I was gutted when they said I would need new ones... and like you said, it equates to a fair chunk off my wedding dress.... but 'health' is one thing that needs to take priority over savings & debt busting!
I now have 6 pairs of nice modern frames which I have 'collected' over the last 2.5 years, and I am now going to just have them relensed in future years, although that in itself costs £99 a pair! What I would give to have perfect eye sight!0 -
What I would give to have perfect eye sight!
Ok so i know this may sound weird and a bit of reverse logic in itself but have you thought about Laser eye treatment? Obviously it may not be for you due to the severity of your case etc. My step mum had it done and she had terrible eyesight.
I know the thought of spending £750 in one lump sum seems extreme but the benefits of it far out way the initial costs. No more £99 getting the relensed which over 8 years pays for it (and if your anything like me you will want the latest styles) :P"We're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl!"0 -
Thought about it, but doubt I would ever have it done. Nothing to do with the cost, just the whole thought of having my eyes lazered... no one knows what the long term effects are, and if it was totally 100% safe and effective, then the NHS would more than likely offer it for people with vastly impaired vision! Plus, it can't stop natural deterioration once your old.
I do like wearing glasses, I had a short stint of wearing contacts, but my face just kinda suits glasses, look very weird without them! Shame they aren't cheap!0 -
Had a productive night on ebay, made approx £100 and listed another 25 or so items, some of which have bids & watchers already! Glad I motivated myself to do the listing now

Hey
well done on the ebay success...i have been thinking about doing it but i cant htink about what to sell. Could you give me some info on what you sold?"We're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl!"0 -
Just noticed this thread.
I went through the same thing, I lost all motivation when I got my pay rise/new job 6 months ago. I bought some new clothes and I got a new Ipod and a WII as well
both are great things and I love them, but to get my motivation back I had to phone my dad :rotfl:
My dad is a typical debt free old man, he is from the era when they had no way to borrow money other than a mortgage so he always gave me into trouble for using a credit card. I called him and told him and got a very long conversation ( filled with choice words) and that was enough to get me back on track.
I wouldnt use the savings, they are for a very special day so leave them be. Thats great that you are ebaying etc, motivation is getting back on track. Do you use cash back sites so if you are spending money at least you are getting some back from it? Could you take an extra job for a couple extra hours a week? That way it keeps you busy ( so not spending money) but you are still earning as well. xxx:heart2: Its 12 o'clock and I need your attention :heart2:Debt at Aug 2008 : Bank of Scotland CC : £1605 :mad:Overdraft : GONE!:j:staradmin Debt free aim: Sometime in 2009:staradmin0 -

Last night I was selling some Playstation & Xbox games along with other sundry items such as books, board games etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. I now have listed some football memorabilia and work clothes that I no longer wear.
You would be amazed what people buy on ebay, what is one mans junk is someone elses treasure!0
