  • Thanks rb6ac! I'm now hoping some other bank will write to me about another forgotten account that will magically and coincidentally have £1,500 in it. Then I can spend the £41.64 I have saved so far on a big fat takeaway instead :T

I am stalking my postman ...
  • I just googled 'car boot sale tips' and I found the following hints, recreated here just in case anyone else happens to be worrying about how to conduct themselves at a car boot sale.

    1. Put price stickers on your goods before the day of sale.
    2. Pack items in smaller cardboard boxes - they are easier to move in and out of the car.
    3. Take a table for your goods, such as a paste table
    4. Arrive early - ring the organisers to ask what time they suggest.
    5. On arrival, unload your table and one box then lock your car while you unpack the box, otherwise people will swarm all over your car, picking up items and confusing you totally.
    7. Dealers come early to make offers. Don't take them unless you are happy with the price; better to tell them to try again later as you've only just started selling.
    8. Take lots of change and a container with a lid for money taken. Once you have a few notes, lock these in your car.
    9. Take a chair, wet wipes, carrier bags for buyers, sandwiches and a drink.
    10. Best of all, share the stall with a friend as this halves the cost and ensures you get a toilet break!

My boss is sooo lucky. I bet I'm the only employee who has spent company time looking up car boot sale tips. I'm an asset.
  • Oh look at that, number 6 is missing. That's annoying - what if it was a great tip?

I joined the 100 day challenge in to give up takeaways.
How is this going? I've also joined this challenge, giving up magazines, which is hard enough, but I don't think I could give up takeaways, in fact I am currently eating a Dominos Pizza! (Sorry...)

    car boot sales-
always always get there early and be prepared for the serious buyers and nosey ole biddys who turn up at your stall as you are unpacking and start haggling with you!!
stick to your guns if you think something is worth more than someone is offering ealry on in the morning tell them if it hasnt sold by 12 then they can have it at that price!
    bring carrier bags with you
if you live near a golf course get out early morning and collect up all the golf balls you find in the bushes- sell them 4 for a pound! ( we made a mint doing this when i was younger- lived at the back of a council course and walked the dogs there!!)
dont be afraid to throw something in for free! to get your price!
2nd hand books go well charge the same for all of them 25-50p or if you have loads 5 for a pound or so on.
i would have a table as well as a boot it makes it easier
if you have a hanging rail hang all your clothes up clean and ironed
    think thats it!! lol
oh and at the end of the day if you have a few things left yell loudly everything a pound!! gets rid of it all!!
best of luck and keep us informed!!
    xx

Hmm ok-ish. It's helped having loads of meals ready cooked in the freezer. And I'm being really piggy with them - having loads of garlic bread with spaghetti bolognaise for example. It helps feeling so full that I need to go belly-up afterwards.

Last night was tough. My meal plan was to have stupid fish and vegetables, but all I could think about was curry and nann bread and chips. I ended up defrosting a curry from the freezer and making some chips to go with it. Fish is so rubbish when you're a takeaway fan. Unless it's covered in batter and vinegar of course :D

Hope you enjoyed your pizza! I'm not in the least bit jealous ;)

Thanks for this salduck. I laughed at the golf ball thing! What a great idea ... unfortunately I'm not near a golf course otherwise I'd definitely do this - every penny helps! I have a clothes rail so I'll make sure to take it.

I will let you know how it goes! I'm waiting for husband to go through all the junk in the garage. I asked him last night when we could do the car boot and he said 'mmm couple of weeks mmm not sure'.

I read on one of the threads on here that you can pay council tax over 12 months instead of 10. I never knew this! So I just rang them and lo and behold it's true. This is great. I never got the advantage of those 2 months off as the money always just got eaten up by my overdraft (which in turn got eaten up by takeaways ho ho).

So that's freed up £30 a month! Excellent stuff - now I have a regular monthly amount I can add to the fund, along with the £5 that EDF kindly reduced my gas bill by. That, as well as the fortune I'm going to make at the car boot sale, should see me raking it in! :T

Well the good times just keep on rolling; I won £10 on the lottery yesterday

But that's the last lottery ticket I'm buying - I've spent far more on tickets than I have earnt on winnings, so from now on I'm going to save the £8 a month I spend on the lottery and put it into my deposit savings instead.

So my monthly savings now are £30 (spreading council tax over 12 months instead of 10), £5 (reduced gas consumption), £8 (giving up lottery) and £43 (reduced grocery bill by £10 p/w)

= £86 per month!!! wooooo hooooooo

:rotfl: (that's me rolling in money)
  • Not posted for a few days ... not earnt any money!

Anyway, I sold two books on Amazon. Not posted them yet but my total earnings after Amazon take their cut is £1.41 per book. Lets hope the postage is less than that! Not a great amount, but ho hum never mind.
