BGas Fixed Price 2012: is this really fixed and cheapest option?

  • Yes it really is fixed until 2012, ie the unit prices are but if you use more energy you will obviously pay more. I think there is an exit penalty if you wish to leave this tariff before 2012.
It is very very unlikely you can sign up with a saving now as there is quite a hefty premium over the standard tariff.
The savings may come in the future if prices rise dramatically between now and 2012 and yours will remain the same.

Hefty premium? It does not say that on their website. Am I looking at the wrong link?

I'd call a 35% premium on tier 1 and 58% premium on tier 2 'hefty'. (Okay, it's only 7.5% premium on their standard tariff rather than Click 5.)

Gas prices for my region (eastmids):

    Standard tariff primary units= 7.563p, secondary = 3.814

    Fixed 2012 tariff, primary 8.123p, secondary = 4.096

These figures are all available on the BG website.

And as Kimyeovil has said, when you compare the 2012 tariff with the online tariffs that's where the "hefty" comes in.
