ASDA WEBSITE v SHOP

I was rather cross with ASDA as I saw a DVD Recorder online with a significant discount, so decided to whiz to my nearest ASDA to purchase it as I wanted it that day

Got to the 24hrs shop and was told that what is online is a different company and that I cannot buy that offer in the shop nor is that particular unit available in the shop, was I missing a trick?

I ended up having to buy something that I really did nto want and it worked out £5.00 more expensive - not happy

Almost all retailers that have an online version operate both as separate business's.

You may not like my reply but usually if an item is advertised on the internet for asda then it tends to be a web exclusive, you should have called first, it would have saved you a journey, dont see how you should be cross with asda, you decided to go to the store expecting to get the item at said price

alot of supermarkets on line stores are in jersey so you don't pay tax on the item so you get it cheaper. But as said most stores have website exclusive products or offers or even discounts that you can't get in the shops.
  • Alot of these websites have different prices to the retail outlets due to vat differences and discounts.

    thank you

No-one forced you to buy it. You could have gone home & ordered the one from the web?

  • Well aware I was not forced to pay it Daytona, thanks for the obvious retort. I did needed a DVD recorder that day and nearest shop was ASDA so checked out the site.

I know now it is different but only as I asked the question in the shop, i ams ure I am not the first to discover that at the last minute and nor will I be the last

E-commerce has lower overheads, as they don't need to rent space in prime retail locations and dont have to have staff available to deal with customers. When items are available on special offer through the website of a high street store, it's because they want you to buy it online - as far as they are concerned, the benefit to them of offering the discount is that they won't have to pay any of the expensive overheads involved in keeping a store open. I suppose it's just one of those things that you only do once and then you check before trying it again - hopefully other people will see this thread and be aware too!

pmsfl. You race down to the store to get it and it wasn't there at that price yet pay for the petrol and a extra £5. Some people:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Also if you buy online you have better protection. Buying online you normally pay via credit card or debit (vis debit card as some protection) then you ahve the distance selling act. You can view a product at home but can send it back justa s longa s you dont use it only view it
