Extended warranty - rights?

I know this has been on here before but in a different guise.

We are about to enable the 6 week rule on coverplan for our defunct whirlpool washing machine. I understand that you then have to wait 7-14 days to get vouchers to go back into Curry's to get a new machine.

Whirlpool told me the machine was fine to use (the drum was on its way out but the engineer said it would be good for a few weeks.)

Friday night the machine let out water all over the kitchen floor, I would be happy to mop as necessary but we are on a 1st floor flat! Don't think the guy below will be happy if it sinks through his ceiling.

As we work all week our only option is to get a machine bought and installed at the weekend, I'm guessing this isn't easy on timings, and we only have two more weekends at home available until xmas.

Can I not argue that I want to go into the store, pay for the machine and arrange for a credit directly with the store on the day via Curry's rather than waiting another two weeks for the vouchers to turn up? Alternatively are the vouchers refundable if I go in first? I'm speaking with a numpty who doesn't know and I don't know if under the DTI regs that I might be able to make any demands at this stage.

Also, is there any compensation available to me for having to use the launderette for the next however long until this mess is sorted out?

And yes, I know, lesson learnt. I would have been much better off saving the money in case the thing broke down rather than being at the mercy of a company who is making it as difficult as poss to help me out!
