Are builders roofers etc that are in a guild or federation as good as they make out?
There seem to be only a very small number of builders and roofers in my area that are in any guild or ferderation. Is it worth sticking only to them to get work done, no matter how long I have to wait or is it worth using the others.
Also, is it the norm for roofers and builders to do work with absolutely no guarantees at all??

guild/federation certificates are not worth the piece of paper its written on.
basically you pay a fee and you a member.
the only true method of finding a decent roofer/builder is by personal reccommendation.
roofers esp seem to be here today and gone tomorrow. there are probably more cowboys in the roofing trade then there were in Calgary.Get some gorm.0 -
As i have stated in other threads i could lay out £1000 today and join them all with no vetting in place from the majority of federations.
I could have joined the FMB at the N.E.C. at a show for a special offer £260 paid there and then.
There are now more federations or Find a Tradesmen type sites on the internet Than there is tradesmen to do the work.
But we pay them for your details on average £15-00,I myself do not use these sites anymore as it was getting ridiculours and we ended up paying over again for the same details.

Where we genuinly advertise our services we are being pushed out by these companys,if we give you a price and you have come through one of these sites i will put approx £40-£50 on your quote to cover the cost of buying your details.OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!!
