First-time house renovation

@TomsMum - thats not good.
1. If you've been told to tape the wrapping back up then thats all I would do and its then his problem.
2. Get on the phone and get manager or boss out to inspect it. Taking out the suite isn't really an option but is it possible it could be lifted from one side/corner to clean out underneath? Its definitely something I'd expect them to resolve.0 -
@jamtart - what why I hate silicon, it gest everywhere when I use it.
We didn't get up to much at the weekend other than inspecting under the floor in the bathroom and also where the stove is going to go. The joist under the shower end of the bath doesn't look good and will have to be replaced I think. Problem is that its about 30 feet long and goes through 3 walls/subwalls and the problem area is right at the wall so its not like we can cut the bad section out and bridge it. think it might have to wait until I've got the boards up to figure out the best way of fixing it.
We went to view some more travertine tiles up in Stirling after being promised that they were all light but it was a wasted trip. I dont know why people aren't just honest about these things particularly when they know you've got to travel to see them.
Went to B&Q to get some lawn sand to try and get rid of some more moss and came across some very large porcelain tiles which we like. Took a box home and although its darker than the wall tiles we like, I think it might make a good contrast and they are about 1/3 of the price of the tiles we have been looking at. Mind you laying them might be interesting as they are 600x600!0 -

Looking very good Anby! Painting can be a real chore particularly when there is a lot to do. Looks like a good job on the plumbing and its reminded me I was going to change some of ours to remove the microbore before the bathroom is fitted.0

Andy - Long day for you but worth it. It starts to look more real when the paint goes on. The patchiness will all be gone when you've got your top coats on. I persuaded my OH to use paint pads, he doesn't like them so went back to the roller. I had a go but within two minutes my hair and sweatshirt were covered so I'm afraid I gave up - he didn't want me there anyway
.
latecomer - Wow! Big tiles, but they should look lovely - remind me, are they for the floor? My son hates that size tile for walls, they always show how walls are never flat and need to be built up with adhesive under the tile.
lisal0u - Sorry about your loss, what a shock for you all. Also hope you feel better soon.
OH phoned the shop about the vinyl, gave the girl the message and she said one of the partners would ring back as he was out at the time. Well, we're still waiting at 4.40pm but we wont give up on it. OH has hospital appointment tomorrow so we can't do anything but will chase on Wednesday if they don't leave a message on the answerphone.
Fridge has been packed back up with clear tape on the polythene. Chap at shop said "I'll send it back and see what happens" - well that's helpful isn't it! He says he doesn't remember me asking him to check that the doors would fit the appliances - how convenient is that! I wont give in though. We asked him to order a Franke sink for us this morning (£ ouch!, but it will be much better quality for every day use in the kitchen than the Wickes one) and only realised this afternoon that the model we want you have to specify LH or RH drainer. He didn't even ask us that - shows how good he is on the kitchen side of his business!
Builders are getting on with building the cupboards for the kitchen but can't fix them yet, have to wait for the new fridge and missing unit plus end panels tomorrow. Then they can't fix the worktop until the sink comes and that's possibly going to be Friday and they finish here Wednesday night. Not sure what will happen about that.
Electricians are here today fixing fans in the bathroom and wall lights and the sun room is getting it's undercoat today.
Probably wont be any pictures for the blog until tomorrow or Wednesday.
The decorator will come on Thursday to start his prep for all the woodwork, top coats and wallpapering. Can't believe it's coming to an end soon, it's become a way of life :rotfl: .0 -
Well done Andy - thats pretty impressive.
Hopefully your week will get better Lisa!
I had good trip to home renovation show yesterday but problem is I saw so many lovely things I can see my budget rapidly expanding. Somethings seem so complicated like I want a walk in shower similar to a wet room but with a screen but builder needs to know where waste will go etc and I haven't chosen a shower yet....
I also saw these glass panels I'd like to incorporate http://www.floatglassdesign.co.uk/projects.php?project=luxury_bathroom but I'm not sure if its possible.
Definitely need to sit down with builder and relook at budget!0 -
They are for the floor, dont think it would be safe for OH to use them on the wall
and hopefully if we put down a new floor it will be flat to start with which will help ......slightly
If I were you I'd find someone else to order things from as this guy sounds like a complete waste of space.
Good luck with the vinyl.0 -
Wow TM its really moving fast now - you must feel in a right whirl0
-
@Josepina - thats quite a feature and I'm sure its got a price tag to match!0
-
TomsMom - glad it is coming along for you. Fingers crossed about the vinyl.
Andrew - great job on the painting. I love your 'yellow' door which was once allegedly white - our ceillings are like that!
We have to decide whether we want to keep the bath or not after the rogue holes fiasco. We also need to get the heating in and walls plastered which we are getting the pros in to do. So our next job will be sorting out the front garden which can be happily done in a weekend, laying some flags, getting a house number and an outisde lantern so fun stuff!
Does anyone use any websites for decorating inspiration? I am SO rubbish when it comes to ideas for decorating, so I dont want to mess up colours, themes, textures on my first go, but I dont want to play it too safe either, want something a bit different.
