evening everyone, as usual with us i get a tradesman in and something goes wrong, had some oak doors put in, got home and the missus has shown me that the guy has somehow scratced the granite tiles in our kitchen, black aswell!!! just as you walk into the room, i looks as if he has shuffled the door and had something under it and theres a concentration of scratches in a section on one tile. Anyone know if there is anything that can be done!!!!!!!! so pveed, always always us.... missus spent 2hrs cleaning after him. I havent spoke to him yet but will do it face to face, but whats he going to say sorry. I dont even know if its fixable?

Stolt, Sorry to hear you have yet more bad luck. :( How on earth did he manage to scratch granite with wood? Must have had sand or cement or something on the doors if they've marked the granite? Or a dirty dust sheet under the doors when he shuffled them? Horrid that Mrs Stolt had to spend so long cleaning after him - sounds as if he left a right mess. :( Hugs to Mrs S and you, and hopes you can get him to do something to put it right - repolish the floor?

cheers fed up if i'm honest, its always something, it looks as if there is lots of fine scratches where i reckon he has offered the door up at the frame at a sort of 45 deg angle.

not sure what we are going to do now. he cant do anything to make it better. I guess there is some sort polish but i'm worried as its shiny tile and i'll make it worse. Not sure whether i can say to the guy, give me £50 to repair the damage...... he still has tomorrow to do.

  • flippin heck! sorry to hear and see that stolt. This is the thing with tradespeople, they don't care as much as it's not their's. He could have owned up to it (if he already knows), and offered to have it fixed.

I suggest you do tell him, face to face and suggest that the tile needs replacing. Do you have any underfloor heating under there etc? (I hope not - at least not on that section). It looks like an end tile, or at least that it comes to the wall / door reveal? If so, that may be easier to repair by replacing another tile if you have any spares? Of course, get the tiler to do it for you.

I KNOW it's a real heartache fella, but give him the benefit of the doubt by assertively 'telling' him what he's done and that you want it replacing by the original tiler.

    Keep us posted!

ta mate, yeah i know i warned him on the phone and when he arrived about scratching the floor, it was the amitco i was more concerned about.

Me and the missus has polishing the tile with car polish, actually made it better (still noticable) but floor is slippy as hell, i bet when i'm rushing around tomorrow getting my morning coffee i hit it then hit the deck!!!

I will mention tomorrow. we have underfloor heating but i'm 90% sure it doesnt go under that tile. (will have to dig through the archives of pictures to be doubly sure, and we dont have any spare tiles either:mad::mad::mad::mad:

doors are all hung but he has to fit the handles and play around witha chisel! dont want that sliping out of his hand and landing on the floor.

near enough done with the tradesmen anyway, still convinced that they wouldnt have done a better job than i could have done, would have had to buy some sharp chisels but it all comes down to time really.

    always us....:)

I'm getting on TERRIBLE today. Been busy as a bee all day, running around getting quotes for a log burner and my new kitchen. (Which I asked you about in another thread - thanks for that). So I'm in a dilemma of buying a homebase kicthen or a magnet one. HB being 2.5k less, but I hear advice from others that it's not the best. That doesn't sound stressful, but they're putting pressure on to buy this weekend. So that's a stress.

Then tonight, my joiner (who I have been waiting for alread) rang and let me down for next week. Whilst on the phone, the plumber called me and did the same. So this delays my plasterer also. I'm on my holidays so a great chance to do loads, and now I'm gonna be miles behind as I won't be around to tell people what I want when I go back to work! The joiner really is worth waiting for as he is very good, and quite MSE for the customer. I've tried 3 other joiners in his abscense and they have been rubbish / rip offs.

Just about all that could go wrong! Too many decisions. :S
