:rotfl:TM, which building society did u used to work for?
My very first job was with the Temperance Permanent Building Society, only lasted 3 months, I legged it when the promised pay rise didn't happen. I was 16.
I then went to the Halifax and stayed there until I got married. You had to work alternate Saturday mornings and I didn't want that once I was married.
After returning to work when youngest child went to school I went to work for the surveyor at Leicester Permanent BS which merged with Alliance to become Alliance & Leicester. The department eventually expanded to 3 surveyors. This was the place I was at for 16 years and loved this job, until they took on someone else who was ruddy hopeless, had no pride in her work, got through mega amounts of Tippex, was very inaccurate with filing and caused many hours of file searches through thousands of files, and I was told I was "too fussy". Funny thing was, I wasn't too fussy when I was the sole secretary and kept that office running without a hitch for so many years and had never ordered a bottle of Tippex on the stationery order!
I couldn't stand it any longer so left. Just happened to be a few weeks after TD had been made redundant so we were both out of work. That's when we had a change of direction and bought the restaurant, came to the seaside and have loved it ever since.
Funny how things work out. There always seems to be a reason for the way things happen, even if we don't understand it at the time it becomes clear at some point.
I think I must be in ramble mode today :rotfl: .0 -
Gin, definitely ask for receipts and confirmation of guarantees for work etc rather than a patched up bodge. The other one does sound interesting too........ got any rightmove links or keeping it under wraps?
LOL at TM& alias! Only pic on my work PC below...... last one ever I think
JT, I was surprised tbh. Will reply in a pm!
lol@ Mr JT being scared of the money! It's funny how it works...... Lowri doesn't mind spending pretty freely although she's a lot better than she was! Luckily we have no debt other than mortgage........ Sometimes I wish she enjoyed saving as much as we as we could pay off the mortgage much quicker or be building a large pot for life. Alas, at least we enjoy our lives a lot!
JT, Completely agree, we are both 26, bought the house when we were 25 and feel so happy that we've done it and loads of the work ourselves. It's quite an achievement and actually a 'nice' feeling while friends are still p1ssing their wages up the wall! Looking forward to moving on and up. We love our house but haven't got attached to it on purpose. I think it's good to keep moving on and up if you want a larger house in the future. By the time are children (we have none yet, maybe a couple of yrs time!) are 5 or so would love to have nice country house with lots of garden space! Maybe we are just dreaming but luckily bought at the right time (mid last yr). In response, I'd defo renovate again and depending on the state of it, probably live somewhere else!

Well, how do I know that someone else won't get interested in the house and buy it from under our feet?...
I'll give you the link when we finally make the decision.

I'd have thought that if someone wants to buy a property they'll be searching for it rather than getting a link from a diy forum on the interwebs but understand the secrecy.
The above house looks awesome! wow!0 -

Yes, I know - I am a bit paranoid person. I usually see glass half empty rather than half full.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
flying visit - as per usual
I work in electronics - currently for a company which makes chips for doing all the audio stuff in mobile phones and portable media players etc
I've finally got the structural engineer to call me back - only took 3 days of calling! anyway he's approved our plan for the hall lintel support being build off a concrete lintel spanning the hole in the brick wall below floor level. Kitchen ceiling is full boarded and mostly plastered. Soffits and fasicas are up at the back - its taking much longer than it should due to the state of the ends of the trusses. And the ones down the side have been cut too short so we're going to have to go with slate vents down the side - I'm not too concerned and as there is a lot of slate work going on it will just get done at the same time with no additional cost.
Front room upstairs is fully plastered and will hopefully be ready for painting tomorrow - sunday at the latest. Main activity for the weekend is going to be emptying the temp kitchen for the slap out which is scheduled for monday.
Anyways I'm sloping off easrly to go to our ante-natal class
Have a good weekend folks0 -
Completely agree LC!0
