First-time house renovation

sounds like its not an issue which is good news
I'm not happy this morning. Despite promises yesterday that everything on the schedule, with the exception of putting down the chipboard for the kitchen floor, would be done this week I got a text to say the brickie and plasterer couldn't do any more at the moment so would be back on monday. This means that the internal hall lintel would be done and hence the boarding of the hall walls and ceiling wont be done. No sign of the plumber and no visible evidence of the electrician having done much yesterday although I realise that a lot of what he has to do involves figuring out whats already there.
I've let the payment go but unless there is a massive amount of progress by the time I get home on friday there will be a meeting on monday morning and we will be changing the payment schedule. this is starting to have a rather familiar feel about it.......0 -
Feel for you LC. Revisions of payment schedules sound the right way to go about it! Let us know how you get on.0

Hi All!
First time posting here, had a bit of a trawl through the thread but couldn't find the answer to my question!
We're in the process of buying a property to renovate, due to complete asap. The problem is we won't be living in the property whilst the renovation is taking place and the best level of buildings insurance we can get is for Fire, Lightning, Explosion and Aircraft. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Just a bit worried about floods (not that it's in a flood risk area) and break-ins especially once the renovation commences (probably in a few months).
Many Thanks!!0 -
Some other good news..new shed is ready and being delivered on Monday morning. So i'm trying to put the garden back together again so they can take it round the back for me and to give me room to paint the panels. So looks like i'll be doing alot of painting next week..though i'm going to need to buy lots more wood preserver than the one tin i've got at the moment. Hoping the weather will stay good for a couple of weeks...though i don't for one minute expect it will!
As for the little shed i think we might keep it just for garden tools - though it needs a lick of paint and refelting. It's not an issue for me being there and i've no intention of moving it just because the neighbour can see a few inches of it! Don't want my new shed to be too full of junk as i'm intending to use as a workshop ...that and I need some room for experimenting with homebrew!
Latecomer, i suppose at least they seem to be doing a better job than the last lot - when they are on site. Sounds like they're putting their labour into another job...hopefully next week they'll be back in force.0 -
Welcome to your new home JT and congrats on your wedding! I'm losing count of the number of us who've got married! Where is Beth who got us stuck on this thread in the first place and set the "get married" trend! Reminds we still haven't ordered our wedding photos (yes we've had since October - though the photographer did call the other week to check we were still alive!)!0

Congratulations Jamtart!! Didn't realise your wedding was so soon! You'll have to post some piccies0

Oh LC, what a bummer.
Congrats JT on the move and the Marriage.
We've had the initial schedule of works for the renovation part of the work on the house. More than I was hoping, but guess I rather expected that. We'll get the stuff about the extension part of the works next week I think.
Off to the caravan for the first time this year hopefully sometime this afternoon. I lost the ceramic implant thingy off one of my teeth 2 days ago, so have dentist at 5 to 9 this morning, then we have to plant sweet corn and beans at the house before we head off to Abersoch.
The plans have gone to the Planners, and since they went online we've been deluged with letters from builders and electricians wanting to quote. Plus someone who wants to install surround sound in every room in the house. Bit tempted by thatbut not enough so to get a quote.
Planning visit surprised me yesterday afternoon when I was at the house. Nice young chap who took photos of house from back and front. Fingers crossed it all goes through OK. Must try and catch next door in as they haven't seen the final plans yet (only the first set which are a bit different).0 -
