    we have carpets!!!

It looks like a different house, it is a bit odd.

We have a hotch potch of arrangements for the skirting boards, but looks really tidy. the fitters were fab, even if the company did try to give us a completely different carpet to what we ordered!

Been reading everyone's blogs ... really useful :)

We ran into problems last night when the boiler man came round to tell us that all the gas pipework already laid was wrong!!! Because of new regulations it needs to take a different route through the house and start at something like 33mm to taper down to 22mm. Wow ......

Really gutted as OH spent 4 days on the pipework we have now under instruction that it would be ok. All is not lost as the hot water pipes still needed to be run so they are ok.

Plan for this weekend is re doing all of the gas pipes and I am going to have to start on the bathroom (chipping plaster off walls aaargh).

Sitting in waiting for my bathroom delivery today ... no idea where I am going to put it. The garden maybe?!

Good morning: Are you saying that your OH is doing the gas pipework for your boiler installation and a RGI will using this gas connection? Is your OH a registered gas installer? If not..see more here and here.

    Hi,
Yes OH is laying all of the gas pipes. The actual checking and connection/installation of boiler is being done by a registered gas installer. There is currently no gas on at the property. The installer guy is coming to fit a new meter today (not quite sure why .. something about 2 flexy hoses not being allowed anymore?)

We got the OK for this from the gas installer but happy to take comments :)

we are almost fully plastered upstairs hurrah!! Think it will be finished this week as I know he wants paying :D

Then there is the first step of excitement... picking bathroom tiles! It is the first thing we have got to pick in the decoration category, so it is all systems go!

We have also made our loft hatch bigger as it was quite small (and I have a lot of junk to put up there:D) so decided to do it before we plastered!

Anyone used Dulux Light and Luminous paint? Does it do what it says on the tin or does it not make anywhere look brighter? Saw it in a magazine and thought it would be good to try in some of our dark areas of the house, but I know what often looks good in a magazine doesn't necessarily look good in real life!

AARGH @ bathroom tiles!! I'm still struggling weeks on. I would really like travertine but it's prooving difficult in all aspects. Maybe I'll need to find an alternative .. but why should I compromise?! lol

Let us know what you get!

Good morning: Most RGIs wouldn't risk their registration/put others at risk by using gas pipework laid by a DIYer and would follow the advice given by Gas Safe Register. MSE does not promote DIY gas work.

Afternoon all. Oh what a good day, the inspector came this morning and was most impressed, especially as I was quoting BS numbers etc, what a relief! He said see you when you start digging footings for extension, he was lovely. And this afternoon I have just checked the council web site and we now have full planning permission, so full steam ahead on the extension.

Bathroom tiles - I (we, no I) have decided on a beige marble efffect with a border half way up of shades of mosaic browns. Now the big decider is do we tile the walls floor to ceiling all way round or only do half way up except of course round bath and shower. What everyone view on this? I really like the idea of fully tiled, but I can also see the benefit of half tiling in order to add a different colour in the form of paint that can be changed every now and then. Need to decide by saturday because thats when Im getting the tiles.

Wow your brave. we are keen DIYers, but Gas thats a step too far for us!
Luckily my BIL is a registered plumber/heating guy, so we got it done by him still cost loads though!

Sounds good Spicey. I think we need to put some buildings control permission thing in for our bathroom as it's being moved. Need to draw up the plans this weekend and you start work 48 after?

We are tiling the floor and wall to ceiling with all the same tiles. There are differing opinions on this from boring/hotel like to modern/simplistic. I may put a mosaic border somewhere ... we'll see. I'd like the bathroom to still look fresh and modern in a few years when we come to sell the house.

I like the paint idea but do you think it would age quicker? I guess it's easier to smarten up though! I would still go all tiles but that's probably because I have the idea in my head for our bathroom :)
