malfunctioning heat detector

I think a heat detector in my flat is broken...
It is making a beeping noise every 30 seconds, and since my letting agents haven't been very helpful I've had to find a manual for a similar heat detector by the same manufacturer. According to this manual if it beeps every 30 seconds it means it's malfunctioned, however the beeping seems to be going on for 12 hours and then stopping for 12 hours.

It all started last weekend and then on Tuesday it all stopped however come Friday the beeping started again and it's still beeping. I have called my letting agents to tell them it is malfunctioned but I just want to double check with someone who hopefully know more about these things than me!!

TIA

I guessed that, however the noise it appears to be making is a 'I'm broken' noise rather than a 'I need a new battery' noise. The battery beep is every 15 mins, this noise is every 30seconds (and thusly driving me insane!).
I also cannot take it apart to change the battery, it is mains connected and there is no screw or anything to change the battery. I've checked and I've two much taller friends round to check and they can't see a screw nor undo it

Melli, try asking at http://www.diynot.com/forums/ - they were incredibly helpful when I was trying to sort my burglar alarm out - you'll need to tell them the exact make and model.

Unfortunately slight problem with that...letting agents either don't know or won't tell me.
A lady from the letting agents came round for a different flat, and I spoke to her about it. We were on the ground floor and we could hear it from there (it's in the attic room!). She said she will try to get someone to look at it tonight, but at least someone from there has heard it and knows I'm not making it up!
