Problems calling someone who is also registered with 18185

I'm subscribed to Primus, but if I use 18185 and call someone else who is also registered with 18185 (but not Primus, they're on BT's Unlimited w/e and evening package), after hearing the 0p per minute announcement, it goes quiet. The phone does ring out their end (but I can't hear a ring tone), but when they answer it I cannot hear them. This means I end up having to ring repeatedly to get through (which is very hit and miss), and obviously it is costing me more than it should due to the repeated attempts, as they answer, but I can't hear them! I'm getting fed up with this, and wondered whether it's happening to anyone else.

I doubt it's anything to do with 18185 if you're getting this problem only to one destination. The fact they have an account too makes no difference to their incoming calls, as 18185 only selects outgoing calls and you're ringing their BT line.

Perhaps there's some kind of intermittent fault on one line or the other. Have either of you noticed problems with other calls?

The fact that the called party also uses 18185 for their outgoing calls cannot possibly affect their incoming call ring or volume - they are still receiving the call on their BT line.

I have noticed that 18185 (and the similar providers 1899, 18866) do sometimes suffer from delayed connection.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have had this problem once or twice calling other numbers, but never when using Primus or BT, only 18185. I understand there can be a delay, but I leave it for quite a while, and have been told that the call's been answered, but I can't hear a ring tone or anyone talking. Must just be a gremlin on my line.

I have had this same problem when using 18185. The person I have called cannot hear me at all and yet I can hear them perfectly. Hanging up and ringing again occasionally solves the problem but usually the problem is repeated. If I ring using BT (and spending more money! ) the call connects perfectly. This has also happened to me when using some of the telediscount type numbers. It is very frustrating for the person at the other end and me too! Of course I am being cahrged for the connection. This happened to me when ringing a non uk mobile number, a uk mobile number and a uk landline. If anyone has any ideas as to what is happening and more to the point how to prevent it occuring then I would be VERY grateful!! Thanks
