Blemishes - help

hi

i can see various thread about acne

but i really need a cure for blemishes

its occured as when i pick my spots..its a force of habit which leads to the scarring then the blemishes.

also i do get a few spots now and then..its due to the diet which i have improved and therefore i now get less spots.

however i still have dark or red pigments ares on my face which was the area of where my previous spots were.

im slightly confused whether to get a treatment for acne.spots etc.
whereas i cant fidn one for blemsihes..as both are linked in some form.

at the moment i have and using bio oil..only been a week..its very oily

i have reduced the amount of cream and fashwashes with the oil content due to this havign a bad effect on my skin..and was wondering whether the oil in biooil was actualy a good one?

Do you mean the actual scarring from the spots? I think there are some creams out there for scars but they are VERY expensive and i don't know if they work... they will fade to a degree with time though...
The only solution is to stop picking... Instead dab some tea tree oil on them as soon as you feel one coming up and keep doing that a couple of times a day till it's gone.

It might be an idea to visit your local surgery and see the practice nurse or doctor (or maybe ask the pharmacist at a chemist's) to see if you can find out what the underlying cause is first.

It could be due to your age, hormones, skin type, diet etc. Once you have established that, then you can find out what the best course of treatment would be.

putting oil on your skin is not causing spots - it is blocked pores...you need to make sure your skin is not producing too much oil which will block the pores and exfoliate regularly also. use warm water when cleansing to open the pores then gently wipe away dirt with a muslin cloth to remove dirt. finish with cool water to close the pores and once or twice a week exfoliate either with a chemical exfoliator (eg elemis papaya enzyme peel) or a physical scrub (eg Liz Earle skin brightening treatment).

With regards to the scarring, the exfoliation will help - once your skin is under control you can introduce a stronger product aimed specifically at skin discolouration - microdembrasion - two good ones to look at are alpha - h and elemis tri- enzyme....when you start using these you MUST use an SPF as your skin will be easily damaged in the sun and you will result in more discolouration.

finally, vitamin C lightens dark marks and vitamin e reduces scarring. very few products have a stable form of vitamin c. philosophy do a powder form which you can slot into your regular routine by adding a spoonful to your regular moisturiser. rosehip oil is great for skin rejuvenation - look at trilogy's range - it is expensive but does work. finally you may think of adding retinol to your routine to strengthen the skin.

Start slowly and let your skin adjust. The scarring will reduce in time. Begin by cleansing effectively and gently and then step it up with exfoliation, then go to the other end of your routine with your moisturiser (there is no point skipping to this step first as you will just spend money on products that are not as effective as they should be which will be disheartening and expensive) then look at the microdembrasion (also no point going straight to this as you may find your skin is not ready to handle it. A good product to try to help with individual spots and breakouts is the Bare Escentual Rare minerals range - it is a mineral powder that you apply to spots and helps reduce them.

Finally, make sure you are drinking plenty of water to flush your skin of all toxins. Good luck and remember it always feels much worse than it is - most friends will probably tell you they cannot see a thing!)

I have a similar problem although mine is very much hormonal! I went through a very bad patch for about a year and not its back to just the odd one or 2 here and there again. I usd oxy spot cream during that time. But they were bad and grouped together so close that now I am also scarred. Although my scars look more like orange peel, like someone has made holes in my face! Any idea if there is anything out there to help with this? Initally I used bio-oil also and this helped reduce the redness alsmost completely for me. I'm now just left with the craters!
  • Hi,

I used to have bad skin like that too, lumpy and red from acne and blemishes.
I found that using Palmers Cocoa Butter cream on my face every night really smoothed out the texture of my skin and i would highly recommend it.
Also exfoliating with a face scrub really helped.

I used to use Palmers Cocoa Butter Concentrate (in a tube) which was about £3.50, i'm not sure if you can still buy that one but you can defo still get other Palmers cocoa butter products.

You can buy products which reduce redness of the skin too from Clinique, haven't tried these though but apparently they are good.
  • Take it from me... deal with the spots, then worry about the scars.
Blemishes will fade a little over time but if the spots keep coming, nothing will stop the picking which causes your problem.
