But how many really do want to buy at the moment? Very few indeed.Look at the stats to prove that.

I think you need to include "can buy" in that as well.

I think lots of people would like to buy, not so many can. Whilst I'm not saying that prices won't drop to 2002 prices in the future, I'm just saying nobody would/could accept that now. Also saying 2000-2002 is a bit silly as there was such a huge increase between those years.

New build could accept that now. Repossessions could. Inheritances could.

Greed will probably get the better of these people and they won't so it'll be a slower decline. I'd like to see them accept it and cut prices overnight rather than prolong the pain but I know they won't.

I don't think many would like to buy. Buy one day, yes, but not now. I think there are far more sensible FTBs out there than you are giving credit for. Possibly raising money would be difficult anyway at the moment - that just makes their wait all the easier.

Yes, there are loads of people in a complete mess and we do tend to hear about them as they are quite vocal. However, there are also a lot cleverer and patient than that just sat saving or renting having sold. So long as their savings and jobs survive, they'll be back one day.

That is dependant on area, a average price house in london could be a 1 bed flat. Up north that could be a 4 bed detached. Which is the the average house?

Wow - I didn't think it was that obvious, or you are very perceptive. I shouldn't expect any less from someone who works in the law and the courts.

Well, as you've so kindly given me the choice, I'll go for perception on my part, thanks very much.

  • I think you are reading into my words a criticism I didn't intend - it was just a statement of fact.

And that's not forgetting the cyber groupies who may well be her.

I suggest our unlearned friend is actually telling big fat porkies.

Perhaps I'm one of the so called sensible FTBs you speak of(?!). I was intending to hold off buying until prices came down a bit, but with unemplotment likely to rise I'm gonna be waiting a bit longer than I'd imagined.

I also agree that no sellers would accept 2002, let alone 2000 prices atm, which while unfortunate for me, is understandable. For now...

Anyone know why PP has taken against me so violently? I'm not particularly bothered, but mildly curious.
