Why do we want to own a house?

That's not possible for me. I'm at peak earnings and the industry I work in is the equivalent of Logans Run - you're effectively dead at 40. Earnings are downhill from there on in. And no, I'm not an international male model, before anyone asks.
I'm afraid the ladder only works if you start off when your earnings are below peak. I may be being unduly negative about my earning potential. But I know my industry inside out and I think I'm just being realistic.
Sorry Woby. An answer that isn't worthy of an audience I'm afraid.
But thanks for the heads up about the gaff in Burnley. I'll bear that in mind for when I overdose on crack and need a place for my corpse to rot away unnoticed.0 -
Woby, Nelly, ringside seats are at least £25.

Meanmachine, I'm surprised you are <40 and know the film Logan's Run. I know I may be heading for an argument here but doesn't what you said mean that you will never get a house? Surely the property ladder works by buying and then selling and moving up. If you buy when property prices are low then trade up once prices have risen you can move up the ladder. If you buy at the top of the market then you will have to wait for the market to fall and rise again before moving on. It's not entirely an earnings thing, it depends (more?) on the state of the market.
If your earnings are peaking at 40 then what do others in the industry do to keep going after 40? In certain industries you can have retired by then. I take it yours isn't one of them.
Oh yes, parts of Burnley are OK, really.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0 -
I love that the Burnley property is being sold in a "popular area of Burnley", the unpopular areas don't even bother with windows0

Woby - it doesn't say popular for what, does it?A house isn't a home without a cat.

No you're right.
I'm posting far too often.
As I'm my own boss, I'm resigning myself from this site.
