Combi boiler in house

Options
I'd like to change our conventional Gas CH boiler and system for a Combi boiler as there are a mess of pipes and tanks in the attic and airing cupboard that need sorting out, and wanted to get a simpler combi based system.

Are these appropriate n a house? Have heard people say they are only best for small propoerties, but from the information I can find looks like they can be used. It's a 4 bed house with Attic (no CH in the attic)

And what should I look for in a Combi designed to be used in a house? I would say we are about average water users for a house this size.

Sorry if this question has been asked before - new here and had a look around but could not find anything...

Thanks

Its the number of bathrooms you need to consider when having a combi. The more bathrooms, the more hot water flow per minute your need.

In our old house, we had an upstairs bathroom, and a shower room at the end of the downstairs extension. We were advised against a combi. That was several years ago. In our present house, sadly only one bathroom and it's more compact. All of the installers we had round suggested a combi and said they'd improved over the years. We're happy with it so far.

Also, I think it's the number of people as well as the number of bathrooms. With six of us, there was a good chance both showers would be used at the same time. My brother and his partner have two bathrooms but never shower at the same time because it won't work. In fact you're not even allowed to turn a tap on with their combi if someone's in the shower!
  • We have a bathroom upstairs and a WC downstairs, up to 4 people in the house. Unolikely to change this for the forseeable future.

Standard combi boilers are suitable for properties with one bathroom/shower room or more as long as they are not used at the same time. There are combi boilers with storage, which are suitable for higher water users, ask your local heating merchant for details.
